To put it simply, Trinity’s academics are unparalleled; I was beyond prepared for the rigorous college I attend. The vast majority of teachers, especially the older ones are noticeably passionate, committed to their students’ education, and genuinely inspiring. My peers are likewise contagiously motivated, friendly, social, and bright. I’ll admit Trinity is incredibly challenging—sometimes mischaracterized as competitive—but it is incredibly rewarding and intellectually enriching. Do not pass up an opportunity to study at this institution.... However, I definitely feel like I was prepared for college by this school. The academics are rigorous and there are many opportunities to earn college credit. Teachers are a mixed bag but most of them are good and well-educated and a lot of the faculty here had a very large and positive influence on me. There are a lot of opportunities to get involved here and the sports are surprisingly not terrible. Alumni network is also pretty good. 7. #3 Best Public High Schools in New YorkTownsend Harris High SchoolNew York City Geographic District No. 25, NY·9-12·Rating 4.22 out of 5 714 reviewsSenior: Deciding to attend Townsend Harris was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. For starters, the community here is very welcoming, whether it be teachers, students, or admin. Spend a day here and you will see a multitude of friendly interactions between students and teachers in the halls (dapping teachers up, to yelling each others’ names and saying hi in the halls) Another aspect I appreciate is this school’s active student body. There are several major student-led events that occur throughout the year, and virtually all students participate it in. FON and S!NG are the major events, and during these times, almost the entirety of the student population comes together to put together the productions. The school is always bustling after school, and most people stay late to participate in clubs, attend FON or S!NG rehearsals, or simply hang out in the halls. I love this community and I would recommend this school to anyone who can handle high academic stress!... 9. #22 Best Private High Schools in New YorkHackley SchoolTarrytown, NY·Private School·K-12·Rating 4.23 out of 5 84 reviewsAlum: This comfortable school has lovely teachers, facilities, sports, and spirit. For some reason, the school's most tough, time-consuming subject is English. Some of the teachers teach it in an excellent creative and analytical manner while others make it extremely hard and tie it to unwanted leftist, woke ideology like in the senior course (Critical Race Theory, Queer Theory, Feminist Theory, Gender Studies, Marxist/Leninist Theory), drawing attention away from higher pursuit in useful subjects. Students spend so much time on "English" to keep their grade up that a lot end up majoring in similar topics in college, because they are unable to compete with top students in business, law, medicine, and technology. If the English taught more grammar/reading comprehension/inference in a rigorous way, students would be better prepared for the SAT/ACT and graduate free from woke ideology. Only 5-7% of the class went to the Ivy League, Stanford, and Duke without a hook.... 10. #4 Best Public High Schools in New YorkStuyvesant High SchoolNew York City Geographic District No. 2, NY·9-12·Rating 4.11 out of 5 1,191 reviewsParent: Stuyvesant represents a solid experience in the public school system. Many people are proud and happy to be here, across varied positions, teachers, administrators, staff, counseling etc. A huge school that manages to foster a sense of community! The students are very competitive with themselves, but for the most part very supportive of each other. Any student can find their passion and their people here, but they need to look and be involved. Fosters independence; diverse socioeconomically; many interesting perspectives; academic rigor; incredible resources; excellent facilities. That being said, not for every student; still need to deal with DOE bureaucracy in a big place; a couple of teachers have checked out or can’t teach; mental health is not the best here. Aside from that overall, Stuyvesant is pretty much what you see is what you get. Lots of pressure junior year. Heavy workload. Little sleep. 12. #6 Best Public High Schools in New YorkHigh School of American Studies at Lehman CollegeNew York City Geographic District No. 10, NY·9-12·Rating 4.08 out of 5 149 reviewsSophom*ore: Having chosen to go to Highschool of American Studies was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It is a small school, but for me that has always been a good thing because it means that everyone knows everyone. I know what to expect from teachers, I get to work with the same fellow students throughout the years, and I'm never late to my classes. The classes themselves are challenging and leave a lot of homework, but I've found it a welcome change after my last school. My only complaints are the small amount of funding for clubs and school trips, but I'm not sure if that is because of the school itself or the overall budget cuts happening all over NYC. Besides that, I would say that as a fluent Spanish speaker, I would've liked to have taken Spanish AP this year rather than Junior year and to have taken another college class in place of art. Overall, I have no regrets about haven chosen this school, and would recommend to any 8th grader, but these are just my complaints.... We had a great campus look and see visit and got all questions answered right away. Fast forward, our kids integrated super fast into the school community. It is a great mix of nationalities, all very open-minded, and welcoming, which we were truly looking for and didn’t get an our former school in the US. They are actively participating in afterschool activities and sports, with a great variety of choices, and even the option to create their own club with teacher support. Some of the best parts of my experience at Bard has been with the time I have spent doing activities with all of the friends that I made, members of the faculty that I feel like I have bonded with, acquiring good grades on assignments and assessments that I spent a lot of time studying for, and more. If there was any way that I could possibly list a single worst part of my experience at Bard, I would say that it had to do with the lack of quality and management when it came to clubs. The situation with the clubs is what really brought the general mood down for the school since there weren't a lot of resources and serious students that supervised the clubs. This is something that I hope will change in the future whenever I return to Bard again.
