Find the Chomiks (Video Game) - TV Tropes (2024)

Over nine hundred Chomiks and counting.

Find the Chomiks is a Roblox adventure-genre Experience, developed by Emceptional and KubaloPL. The game is a "Find The Badges" game, and is known for being one of the "Find The Badges" games with the most number of badges note, with 945 different chomiks to find (ending on 1,000). In it, the player can find numerous chomiks hidden around the map, ranging from Easy to tarsorado demon. The player can also travel faster by going to the menu tab and clicking the Fast Travel option.

The game became notably popularized in mid-to-late 2021 and inspired numerous memes about the game's chomiks, which are all photoshops of a single 3D-animated image of a hamster. The hamster image is taken from chomikuj.pl and is the site's mascot.

Find the Chomiks provides examples of:

  • 420, Blaze It: EVIL CHOMIK was added to be the 420th chomik in the game and due to that, it became not only one of the most hated chomiks in the game, but also one of the most recognized chomiks in the game, with many jokes inside of the community saying that EVIL CHOMIK is the best chomik in the game.
  • Absurdly Short Level: The Deserted Island area was designed to see how many chomiks can fit on a small island. It's much more than you may think at first.
  • Amen Break: Some of the more intense songs make prominent use of this break to contribute to their fast-paced feeling (e.g. Viral Chaos, RUN).
  • Analog Horror: There is a chomik that has an appearance of the namesake trope.
  • Ancient Egypt: The Desert zone and its Revamp Realm variation contains buildings and chomiks that are references to the Ancient Egypt, including pyramids, a Sphinx, and chomik based on things like Anubis, hieroglyphics, and a pharaoh.
  • Art Evolution: The very first chomiks were edits of the original Chomik image that can easily be made in a photo-editing software. Over time, the effects grew more sophisticated, the chomiks started to be drawn, with those evolving from simple drawings into very well-drawn chomiks, and this culminated in insanely detailed chomiks such as Devourer of Spacetime Chomik.
  • Ascended Glitch: Escaped Chomik's description states that the method of obtaining it was originally a bug.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When you enter the house in the Suspicious Zone, you will be greeted with what appears to be Lightmatter Chomik with the word "GG" above them. When you get closer to it, however, Suspicious Chomik will appear and kill you, giving you the badge of it instead of Lightmatter Chomik.
  • Band Land: The Music area. Three guesses to what it is, and the first two don't count.
  • The Blank: The chomik Nihil has no facial features at all.
  • The Casino: One of the realms is a casino, featuring an arcade section, pool table, and many chomiks to find, with some themed after typical casino activities like poker and blackjack.
  • Crossover: Had a crossover with another popular "find the badges" game, Find The Markers, at one point. You have to go to Find the Chomiks to go on a quest for the Chomik Marker, and vice-versa.
  • Dark World: Inverted. The Grayscale World is a desolate and lonely area that is completely monochrome, with the act of being forgotten or fading away as one its themes, (hence Fading Chomik and Dementia Chomik), while its counterpart the Kotek Realm is fully in color, contains a house with silly posters and a cat-themed Chomik, and has cheerful background music ("The Mountain Village" from Pikuniku). You can't leave the house, though, unless you say a code that breaks a window, which is one of the steps for getting Festive Titan Chomik.
  • Deliberately Monochrome: The entirety of the Grayscale realm and the majority of the chomiks in it are monochrome, as the name suggests.
  • Easier Than Easy: There was a difficulty named ser (cheese in Polish), which was made to be easier than the easy difficulty, but it got scrapped later due to being used for only one chomik (Sernik) and to allow space for Terrifying in the Difficulty Chart.
  • Enter Solution Here: A lot of puzzles involve finding codes elsewhere and inputting them somewhere or saying them in chat. The most simple ones have the code simply lying around somewhere in the map, but others require you to take extra steps to find the code, such as looking for multiple parts to assemble the code or going to external websites.
  • Forbidden Fruit: The required code to obtain I Wanna Be The Chomik is literally "forbiddenfruit".
  • Gotta Catch Them All: Your only goal in this game is to find all the chomiks.
  • Guide Dang It!: Some chomiks (Forgor Chomik being an example) have no hints at all on how to find it in the game.
  • Idiosyncratic Difficulty Levels: Difficulties for chomiks can range from...
    • Easy
    • Medium
    • Hard
    • Intense
    • Insane
    • Extreme
    • Terrifying
    • Obama
    • ...note
    • HAHAnote
    • tarsorado demon
  • Jump Scare:
    • If you die in the Ao realm, a picture of Ao Oni with sharp teeth will suddenly pop up with a Scare Chord, regardless if the monster itself catches you or not.
    • In TH3 SH4DY GR3Y, a hand will pop up suddenly when rounding a corner, which is required to get Busy Man Chomik.
  • Leitmotif: The Apartment has a central theme heard in different forms. The songs for the floors use the same melody, but in a different arrangement (a soft, chill arrangement for floors 0 and 2, a more acoustic arrangement for floor 1 etc.).
  • Lethal Lava Land: The Lava area is a rocky area where lava flows in streams and from a volcano.
  • Lock and Key Puzzle: Some chomiks are locked behind doors and require a key or another object that unlocks the door to get it, such as Janitor Chomik.
  • LOL, 69: Jomik Chomik is known for being the 69th chomik in the game.
  • Luck-Based Mission: Obtaining Chover, Snowflake Chomik, Dreamik and Golden Chover all require luck in order to obtain them, with Chover having a 1/250 chance of obtaining while walking on grass, Snowflake Chomik having the same requirements for Chover but having to walk on ice instead, Dreamik having a 1/100 chance of respawning to access the dream area, and Golden Chover being randomly obtained from pulling levers of slot machines in the Casino.
  • The Many Deaths of You: There's many ways to die in the game such as falling into the void, touched by a specific chomik or touched by a killbrick.
  • Marathon Level:
    • The way to obtain Mapmik is going though 15 areas, which includes finding hidden buttons, passing though camouflaged holes and falling into an area that you wouldn't think has anything in it.
    • Realmik takes this to the extreme, requiring you to complete challenges in each realm, including unused realms, leaving a total of 29 stages.
    • Recollection, a realm required to access Everything Chomik, is this for obbies. While most obbies in this game can be completed in less than a minute to a few minutes if you're good, Recollection's obby takes 20-30 minutes to complete, and falling off requires you to start from the beginning.
  • Mona Lisa Smile: There is a chomik that resembles Mona Lisa.
  • No Plot? No Problem!: There's no underlying plot to the game. Just find all the chomiks you can!
  • Number of the Beast: Devil Chomik is, fittingly enough, the 666th chomik in the game.
  • Paradiegetic Gameplay: Some of the harder chomiks will send you outside of the game itself. Some examples are making you change your system clock, making you look through several different Roblox accounts, and needing to download and beat an I Wanna Be the Guy fangame.
  • Platform Hell: Some of the more difficult obstacle courses descend into this, requiring pinpoint precision to land tight jumps that, if missed, will undo a lot of your progress. However, none of them are as bad as the obstacle course leading to the Trollgemik, filled with fake platforms, misleading paths, and instant-kill hazards.

Trollgemik Badge Description: "an extreme amout [sic] of trolling is required to get this badge"

  • Rhythm Game: Funky Chomik requires you to do a 1v1 battle, using Friday Night Funkin' mechanics and winning it in order to get the Funky Chomik.
  • Rise to the Challenge: Several obbies, such as Evil Chomik's obby, the final obby for Frost Monarch Chomik, and one of the last obbies for Über Secret Chomik, have a rising substance that will kill you if you touch it, forcing you to complete them quickly and without failure.
  • Sampling: Some songs in the game use assets from other songs; for example, "Goofy" samples a lot of meme sounds and the "Come on!" voice clip from Sonic the Hedgehog 3's boss theme, and "World Devoid of Sun" uses the same bell sample that plays in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask during the final hours before the Moon's descent to Termina.
  • Screamer Prank: Completing the five levels of the Scary Maze in Ao causes a poorly-drawn chomik known as billy to pop up on the screen, loudly screaming at you and kicking you from the game.
  • Secret Character: Everything Chomik; the name and the appearance of the chomik will not appear until you get it in the Fragmented Domain, in which requires obtaining Coneclusion in Find The Cones in order to access the realm.
  • Serial Escalation: You start the game walking around a small map collecting chomiks in plain sight. The further you go, though, the more demanding finding chomiks becomes, gradually escalating in scope and ridiculousness as their difficulty rises until you hit absolutely sad*stic chomiks such as NotHcom, God Chomik, and Internet Chomik. And lord help you when you dare to seek out the Everything Chomik.
  • Shifting Sand Land: The Desert area, which contains dunes, cacti, a pyramid, and a Sphinx, though it isn't as dry as other deserts due to being surrounded by water.
  • Shout-Out: There is a full page covering it.
  • Slippy-Slidey Ice World: The Ice area, where the floor and most of the structures are made of ice.
  • Solid Clouds: Above the School is a series of clouds you can walk on; they form the obby for Cloudmik.
  • Stylistic Suck: Chomiks are all based on a grainy, low-resolution render of a hamster taken to the utmost extremes. billy and Maurice take this even further due to being poorly-drawn images of a chomik.
  • Surprisingly Creepy Moment: While the game has a small helping of jump scares and disturbing looking Chomiks, it's still a rather pleasant and lighthearted game about finding hamsters, but were you expecting to find a survival horror zone where you're being pursued by Ao Oni?
  • Toggling Setpiece Puzzle: Reversemik's 2D obby contains On/Off switches that toggle between red and blue platforms, with either the red platforms appearing and the blue platforms disappearing or vice versa. You have to time your jumps while hitting or avoiding the switches to reach the Chomik without falling.
  • Viewers Are Geniuses: There will come a time where the player will be seeking out particularly elusive chomiks; these can involve anything from completing tasks in completely separate Experiences to solving complex math puzzles, decoding cyphers, collecting codes from various locations, exploring HTML files in separate websites, slowly escalating into full Alternate Reality Games, all so you can collect silly little hamster badges.
  • Violation of Common Sense: There's a petri dish with a note telling you not to touch it or you'll die. Touching the petri dish warps you to an area with four virus chomiks chasing you, which you can collect, as well as two other chomiks to collect.
  • Waiting Puzzle: In the Grayscale Realm part of Realmik's Trials, the narrator will say that you're stuck in the realm because they couldn't think of a puzzle, but all you have to do is wait a while after they finish their dialogue and they'll reluctantly open up the portal.
  • World Tree: There is a realm that you explore around a giant tree. It's even called The World Tree! The presence of orbs among the roots imply a supernatural connection, but it isn't specified.
  • Your Princess Is in Another Castle!: There's several fake Legendary Artifact Chomiks in Casino at the pathway of the chomik, with the true being located after completing the lava obby and passing though two fake Legendary Artifact Chomiks.
