The 83,000 football fans packed into Clemson's Memorial Stadium on Nov. 11, 2023, were mesmerized by the beautiful acapella rendition of the national anthem sung by Clover, South Carolina, native Blackmon Huckabee before the Military Appreciation Day game. And now, with the June 14 release of "Run With Me," fans all across the country will be able to cheer on the 22-year-old's first single, an original composition with an R&B sound. Blackmon's artist name is simply that, "Blackmon," because "when you have a first name like that, you don't need anything else," he said with a laugh. His journey from being a lifelong Clemson fan to making the football team as a walk-on, to suffering a sidelining injury, composing original music during rehab, to now releasing his first studio-recorded original song is a delightful journey!"I think this song I am releasing on Friday I wrote back in December, but I have written a ton of songs since then. I am sitting on a lot of really great stuff right now," so "Run With Me" is just the beginning of many more beautiful dance-along songs to come. Blackmon credits his close-knit family and his Clemson family with supporting him through this journey. He was 10 years old when he lost his dad, Blackmon Huckabee, Sr."I’ll get so excited about making something, and I’ll play it back, and I’m like, 'I wonder what my dad would’ve said about that. I think he would really love my ambition, he would love my drive. I think he would be inspired by that motivation, and that inspires me every single day, too," he said. His mother and stepfather, Sheila and Jamie Quinn, are also huge driving forces in Blackmon's life."Not just for my dad, but for my mom, too, and my stepdad, my family. I have such a great family backing me, and I couldn’t really ask anyone better," he said. And there's the Clemson family, coach Dabo Swinney, the assistant coaches and his teammates. They are all there to encourage his music every step of the way.The smooth sounds and easy melody of "Run With Me" are recorded with a lot of star power behind them, too."The mastering engineer that worked on it just mastered Billy Eilish's last album, did SZA's last album, he's worked with The Weeknd and Harry Styles," Blackmon said. There's much more ahead for this red-headed South Carolina crooner. Having just graduated in May with a business degree, he will return to the football field this fall for his final year of eligibility as he earns his MBA.
