The show's first and only season struggled tonally and failed to capture any demographic. You would think that a RuPaul show would attract all the Drag Race stans, especially given all the drag guest stars, but it just wasn't meant to be.

At the close of the show, AJ's mother Brianna (Katerina Tannenbaum) is free of drugs and along with police has finally tracked down AJ, who back in Episode 1 had stowed away in Robert's RV after his mother went missing.

On October 16, 2018, it was reported that Izzy G. had been cast in the lead role of the titular AJ. In January 2019, it was announced that Matthew Wilkas had joined the cast in a recurring capacity. On March 6, 2020, Netflix announced that the series had been cancelled after one season.
