A Birth Story | Omaha Nebraska Birth Photographer

I got into work around 7am. I started eating my yogurt and cereal at my desk. It just seemed like another normal day.  While I was enjoying my breakfast I got a text. I looked my phone to realize it was Amber telling me she was going to have this baby Today! I started to shake, I was so nervous. I had no idea how my life was going to change witnessing the birth of a new life.  I ran home, grabbed my camera, and headed to Amber’s apartment. I remember thinking to myself this is REALLY happening.

I arrived at their apartment and waited at the door for someone to answer. I was incredibly nervous, I was still shaking. What if she gave birth already and I missed it? I had just driven 20 miles over the speed limit to get there in 15 minutes. Then David appeared to let me in the building. I calmly asked him how she was doing. He looked nervous, I felt nervous. As I walked into the apartment it was silent. There was a certain peace over the apartment. I got my camera gear together and walked into the room where Amber was hunched over the bed. Through each contraction someone was there to press onto her back to relieve the tension. Everyone was quiet. It was only the click of my camera and a playlist Amber put together. I wanted to hug Amber, to tell her how great she was doing, but I kept silent. This was her time to focus on bringing her baby in the world.

Finally the pool was ready for Amber to get in. She instantly felt relief. This was going to be hard work for her. She had no drugs, it was her listening to her body and doing what it could handle. Amber breathed through every contraction, she was focused, determined, and full of strength. As it got closer to Kasen’s arrival, Amber stated “I can’t do this, I can’t push anyone.” It took everything I had not to yell, “You can do it!!!” I continued to remain silent. At that moment David got down next to Amber and held her hands. He gently whispered in her ear, “you can do it.” It was at that moment Amber and David held each other close. It felt like seconds, but there was brand new little Kasen. He was quickly placed in Amber’s loving arms. I was in tears behind my camera. It was one of the most beautiful moments I’ve ever experienced. I still can’t put it into words that moment of pure happiness.

Kasen, I wish you a life of happiness. You were born into a wonderful loving family that will love you more everyday. I hope you find your passion in life and always follow your heart. Thank you for showing me the beauty of life.

Here is a slideshow of the birth. It truly is amazing to watch. I did cut down to as little as I could, but I just wanted you to feel the entire experience. Amber will also be a guest blogger next week to talk about her experience.
