Monthly Archives: November 2009

Chris, Mandy and Hunter | Omaha NE Portrait Photographer

This was my last family session for the month of November. I’m glad I survived because it was busy. There are still two awesome sessions from last month that will be up later this week (my first maternity session, which I’m so excited to share).

I’m such a blessed photographer because this is another amazing family I had the opportunity to photograph. Hunter has big beautiful eyes and such a wonderful spirit. At this session Hunter explored all the picnic tables and talked about what he wanted to eat. He described tons of breakfast food from pancakes, waffles, bacon, and other delicious food (breakfast is my favorite meal of the day.) We got to throw rocks in the lake and throw leaves. There was so much laughter and true happiness. Thank you so much for letting me spend the afternoon with you all.

Katie, Conor, and Ella | Omaha NE Portrait Photographer

When Katie contacted me for a session she said she had a very active 17th month old girl. I admit I thought, no worries, all parents think their kids are active. Ella is very active! I had so much fun, but I didn’t think a 17th month old could out run me. Further proof I need to step away from the computer and get in shape. Ella is a total tom boy. She would point out trucks and airplanes. She loved exploring the world and gets excited when she finds interesting things to look at.  I truly believe kids make the world a better place and help parents to remember their own childhood. Katie and Conor are amazing parents. They laughed and smiled along with Ella, just as excited to explore the world with her. When I asked Katie about Ella she said, “Ella has been a blessing in our life and we get a big kick out of watching her run around and explore. We always say the world is her playground. She loves life and is full of humor.” This is so true. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to photograph Ella and see her joy in life.  Thank you all for a wonderful afternoon!

I Heart Faces – Sun Flare | Omaha Nebraska Photographer

If you haven’t noticed I love sun flare.  There is something about the beautiful tone the light adds to a photo. It’s so funny because when I first started photography I was deathly afraid of the light. I mean terrified!  I would look for the shade at all times, but once I learned how to use  it I was hooked! I have also blinded myself a couple times in the process of getting the shot.

I selected this photo of Megan and Corey for this weeks photo challenge because there is nothing like the moment before a kiss. You can just feel the intense emotion before their lips even touch. It gives me chills. The light just gives that feeling of how powerful their love is (yes, I’m ridiculous about love!) I also love how the nebraska sunlight gives that feeling of complete warmth.

Julie, Nate and Max | Omaha Nebraska Portrait Photographer

When Julie first contacted me I knew we were going to have a great time together. I mean anyone with the name Julie has to be awesome and have awesome kids too. We bonded right away. Plus I loved  when Julie said, “I’m not a fan of posed photos.” I thought, finally someone who gets what I do.

I will tell you I’m not a fan of posed photos. I just don’t feel they capture who people are and their dynamic together. I loved how Julie let Nate and Max run free. As a kid you have so much curiosity and see the world in a wonderful way. As a photographer, I want to photograph that because those simple moments of childhood go away too quickly and that sense of wonderment with the world fades. The good news is, photographs don’t go away.  They hold those moments forever.

On this journey, we ended up in the mud, climbing through trees, and exploring the lake.  Nate found a fishing pole and collected leaves and sticks throughout our adventure. Poor Julie ended up taking a truck load of leaves and sticks home with her.

Thank you Julie, Nate and Max. I truly had a wonderful time with your family.

Also, sorry for any typos or grammatical errors. Once again my amazing editor is sleeping. He will fix things in the morning. If you want to see his amazing writing check out his new blog. It is a great read and he is very funny (or likes to think he is. j/k).

I Heart Faces – Autumn Beauty Challenge

I decided to enter I heart faces photography Autumn Beauty contest this week  with this photo of Seanna playing in the leaves. When I think of the beauty of autumn, I think of kids playing in the leaves. It embodies the wonder, excitement and joy of being a child.  I love the look on her face as the leaves are falling around her. It makes me want to be a kid all over again!
