My husband has been out of town for the last week so I decided it was time for a road trip. On Saturday I grabbed my camera, jumped in my civic and headed to Winterset, Iowa. You are probably thinking, why Winterset? Well, long story short, my mom was born in Iowa and spent the first couple years of her life on a farm in Winterset.
It took an hour and forty-five minutes to get to there. I thought I would drive in and just magically find a farm I didn’t have the address for. After 20 minutes of driving around dirt roads, I decided to call my Grandmother. She hasn’t been there in 20+ years, but her memory is awesome and she guided me to the farm. It is kind of sad because the house they lived in has been torn down and rebuilt. When I arrived at the house a dog ran directly toward me. My first thought was this is going to end with a bite or a lick. Luckily he ran up to me and licked me hand. The dog then followed me around the farm land. I took several pictures of him. It was hilarious because every time my camera made a noise he would search frantically for it.
Then I headed over to Roseman Bridge. I had the bridge all to myself. I even had to lay in the mud to get one shot. My whole car was covered in mud by the end of this trip. I finally headed to the downtown area. It was deserted due to the cold weather and since the shops are closed on Sunday. I learned a lot about my family and where they came from. I can’t wait to make a trip with my husband this spring.

Exploring…
This is one cool dog. I wish I could have brought him home.

Roseman covered bridge. I laid in the mud to get this shot. Dirty, but worth it!

This is one of my favorites. It looks like you are going towards the light.
Some local kids waiting for their parents. My dad use to make me wait all the time.
The courthouse. I think the black and white processing gives it a dramatic look.
